Mind the Gap – Try Pipex Platform Gap Fillers
With the introduction of DDA regs and the desires of London Underground and Network Rail to provide ‘step free’ access onto/off trains, novel solutions were needed.
Plymouth based Pipex developed such a solution, using their FRP manufacturing experience to provide platform copings (sometimes referred to as Copers) combined with rubber gap fillers. This gap filling principle allows the rubber gap filler to ‘flex’ with the train (if necessary) and to permit easy access to/from the trains.
In most cases, it is necessary to install a raised section in the platform and this is where the Fibre Reinforced Polymer (FRP) Pipex px® Platform Level Access HUMP® solved the problem. It is an innovative pre-fabricated modular raised platform system which allows access to a train for travellers with limited mobility, wheelchair users and families with pushchairs, by eliminating the large gap from modern trains to platform found in rural stations.
Additional benefits of the Pipex px® Platform Level Access HUMP® include;
- Low conductivity, no earth bonding required
- Lightweight for ease of installation
- Cost effective compared to traditional alternatives
- Design life of 60+ years dependant on application
Installations in London, include major stations such as London Bridge, City Thameslink, Kings Cross/St Pancras and several more.
